Twilight Barracuda Vortex Through Queensland Kelp

by Amanda Mitchell

Cool blue twilight light falls through a dense forest of kelp fronds, illuminating a swirling vortex of barracuda from a rear perspective. The fish form a tight, rotating cylinder of silver scales that glint against the deepening water. Fine plankton haze softens the distant kelp stalks, creating layers of muted green and gray. Individual fish bodies blur slightly at the vortex edges, suggesting rapid movement within the stillness. Darker kelp shadows stretch vertically across the frame, framing the silver school. At the center of the rotation, the water appears darker, against the bright highlights on the fish scales. A bent kelp tip hangs from the current near the bottom right corner.
