Dik-Dik Pair in Andean Scrubland Tidal Inlet
Bright midmorning light floods the dry scrubland where two dik-diks stand motionless beside a tidal inlet in the Andes. Their enormous dark eyes reflect the clear mountain sky above, framed by dramatic, heavy clouds that stack low on the horizon. Cool season air settles over the sparse, brownish grasses and scattered rocks that dot the landscape. The animals' slender bodies blend into the earthy tones of the terrain, their fur appearing coarse and textured against the smooth, gray water of the inlet. Shadows stretch short and sharp beneath their hooves, showing the stillness of the moment as they pause in patient observation. One droplet of water clings to a low-lying shrub near the muddy bank.
