Silhouetted Dik-Dik Hiding in Scrubland Dawn
Cold silver dawn light spills over a dry scrubland above a glacial stream, illuminating the clearing mist after a storm. A tiny dik-dik stands motionless, its form reduced to a sharp, dark silhouette against the brightening horizon. The surrounding vegetation consists of brittle, straw-colored twigs and low shrubs that have lost their leaves to the dry season. Wet stones along the stream bank reflect the pale sky, while the animal’s slender legs and large, alert ears are barely distinguishable from the tangled branches. The light cuts across the rough texture of the dry grass, highlighting the contrast between the shadowed foreground and the glowing sky. One droplet of water rests on the tip of a nearby twig, catching the first ray of sun.
