Golden and crimson foliage blankets the terraced hillsides of West Virginia, creating a vibrant tapestry of peak autumn colors. From a direct overhead perspective, a narrow sand causeway stretches across the frame, connecting a small, rocky tidal island to the mainland. Deep shadows carve definition into the terraced slopes, showing the rugged topography. Pockets of white ground fog nestle in the lowest valleys, drifting between the ridges and softening the base of the hills. The water surrounding the island reflects the bright midday sky, appearing as a smooth, dark mirror that contrasts sharply with the textured, rust-colored earth. The geometric precision of the causeway cuts a straight line through the organic chaos of the forest.
