Bactrian Camel in Oman Tidal Inlet

by Ellis Saunders

Thick, coarse beige fur blankets the massive shoulders of a Bactrian camel standing low to the ground. Two distinct humps rise against a pale, washed-out sky filtered through soft overcast clouds. The animal's dark eyes gaze forward from beneath heavy, shaggy eyelashes. Heat haze shimmers above the wet, dark sand of the tidal inlet, distorting the horizon line where the water meets the sky. The perspective remains low, showing the towering scale of the creature against the flat, expansive marsh. Mud rests on the camel's lower legs, against the dry, dusty texture of its coat. One droplet of water hangs from the tip of its lower lip.
