Dik-dik pair near glacial stream in early summer

by Sally Montgomery

Tropical bright light floods the low scrubland where a pair of dik-diks stands near a glacial stream. Their enormous, dark eyes reflect the pale haze of early summer fog drifting across the ground. The angle sits inches above the earth, showing the rough texture of dry grass and the smooth, wet stones lining the water's edge. Sunlight pierces through the light mist, illuminating the fine, short fur on the animals' backs while casting sharp, defined shadows beneath their slender legs. The stream flows quietly between banks of green moss and gray rock, creating a stark contrast with the warm tones of the surrounding scrub. A reflection of a leaf floats on the water's surface near the nearest dik-dik's hoof.
