Corroded Tanks in Uzbekistan Ruin After Rain

by April Berger

Rust streaks paint the flanks of massive cylindrical tanks in shades of oxidized green and deep orange. Soft afternoon light falls through a lingering rain, turning the corroded metal surfaces into wet, reflective sheets. Toppled concrete columns lie scattered across the muddy ground, their broken edges softened by the damp air. Tall nettles grow in dense clumps between the twisted metal and shattered stone, their green leaves glistening with water droplets. Leading lines formed by the fallen debris guide toward the distant, hazy silhouette of the remaining plant structure. The scene holds a stillness, marked only by the slow drip of water from the highest, most damaged tank into a puddle below.
