Orange Water Tower Sunset Hue Storm Aftermath

by Nicole Wolf

Rich amber light floods the concrete bowl of a massive water tower, turning its weathered surface a deep, saturated orange. The structure stands beneath the skeletal steel lattice of transmission towers, its cylindrical form dominating the frame against a fading sky. Low ground fog pools in the depression of the surrounding terrain, clinging to the base of the metal supports while the air above remains clear. The dry season leaves the grass brown and brittle, stretching out toward the horizon where the light begins to soften. Heavy shadows fall across the curved walls, showing the rough texture of the aged concrete and the rust streaks running down the metal seams. The entire composition rests on a foundation of civic utility, silent and imposing under the late-day glow.
