Crumbling Jetty Bollards in Caracas Courtyard Mist in through a courtyard reclaimed by grasses near Caracas

Crumbling Jetty Bollards in Caracas Courtyard Mist

by Francis Pratt

Thick morning mist rests on the damp stone floor of a courtyard reclaimed by Caracas grasses. An iron bollard leans sharply to the left, its rusted surface pitted by years of monsoon rain. Beside it, a second bollard tilts at a precarious angle, framing a view of the crumbling jetty structure beyond. The diffused dawn light softens the edges of the weathered concrete and corroded metal. Green blades of grass push through cracks in the gray pavement, their tips heavy with water droplets. A stone archway in the foreground creates a natural frame around the leaning metal posts. The damp air settles visibly against the rough textures of the decayed masonry. one drop of water hangs from the jagged edge of the rusted iron.
