Wildflowers in Hubei Ruins Silhouetted

by Robin Fitzpatrick

Hard coastal glare floods the late afternoon sky, turning the broken masonry of a Hubei ruin into a stark silhouette. Toppled columns lie scattered across the damp earth, their rough stone surfaces softened by a layer of fresh rain. Vibrant wildflowers push through deep cracks in the stone, their delicate stems standing tall against the bright backdrop. Tall nettles cluster around the fallen debris, their green leaves glistening with moisture. The humid air hangs heavy, visible as a slight haze between the darkened ruins and the intense light. Small petals catch the glare, creating sharp points of color against the shadowed stone. One white bloom rests on a jagged edge of a fallen pillar.
