Rusted Diving Boards Silhouetted at Twilight Ruin

by Helen Snow

Deep indigo clouds press low across the sky where the sun has just vanished, casting the concrete pavilion into a dark silhouette. Two rusted diving boards jut outward from the structure, their jagged metal edges sharp against the fading light. Tall green nettles grow thick around the base, reaching up toward the toppled stone columns scattered on the ground. The columns lie in disarray, their broken surfaces resting against the damp earth. Low-angle perspective emphasizes the height of the skeletal boards as they hang from the decaying concrete. A final sliver of orange light catches the rough texture of the rusted metal at the very edge of the board.
