Corroded Tanks in Roofless Singapore Hammam

by Charlotte Hogan

Rusted green and orange tanks stand abandoned inside the open-air shell of a hammam structure in Singapore. Rain-slicked stone floors reflect the low horizon light as it wraps around the corroded metal surfaces. The roof is gone, exposing the tanks to the humid sky while wind stirs the empty rooms. Vertical pipes hang limp against weathered walls stained by decades of salt and moisture. The orange rust peels in thick flakes, revealing dark pits beneath the flaking paint. Shadows stretch long across the damp ground where puddles gather near the base of the largest tank. A jagged piece of broken tile rests against the concrete foundation, catching the last glow of the setting sun.
