Wet concrete walls curve inward to form a massive tunnel portal along a Virginia dam spillway. Long, translucent icicles hang from the upper lintel, catching the dim blue light of the early spring evening. A soft fog obscures the distant spillway, leaving only the heavy gray masonry and the glistening ice in sharp focus. Utility lights cast a faint, cool glow on the damp surfaces, highlighting the rough texture of the cured concrete against the smooth, frozen water formations. The wide panoramic view emphasizes the civic scale of the structure, where the rigid geometry of the tunnel meets the organic droop of the melting ice. One icicle tip reflects the distant utility bulb, marking the edge of the frame.
