Kenya Storm Barrier Reservoir Intake Blue Hour in beside a storm surge barrier in Kenya

Kenya Storm Barrier Reservoir Intake Blue Hour

by Luca Bishop

Concrete structures rise from the wet ground under the deepening indigo of the Kenyan monsoon evening. A massive reservoir intake channel sits beside a storm surge barrier, its gray surfaces slick with recent rain. Signal lamps along the barrier edge glow with amber and red light, cutting through the humid, cooling air. The intake corridor extends visibly far beyond the physical building that contains it, a impossible stretch of concrete tunnel disappearing into the dark horizon while the surrounding architecture remains grounded and finite. Water reflects the glowing signals in shallow puddles on the paved apron. The low angle emphasizes the vertical weight of the concrete pillars against the fading sky.
