Breathing Tunnel Portal in Alpine Winter Light in along a levee path above floodwater in British Columbia

Breathing Tunnel Portal in Alpine Winter Light

by Jeffrey O'Donnell

A massive concrete tunnel mouth dominates the left third of the frame, exhaling a thick plume of cold mist that drifts across the levee path. To the right, the sky splits abruptly from clear late-afternoon blue into a dense field of sharp stars, the horizon line acting as a hard boundary between day and night. The concrete surface shows rough aggregate textures and weathering stains from early winter moisture. Spray hangs suspended in the engineering daylight, catching the sun on the left while the starry side remains cool and shadowed. Below, floodwater reflects the dual sky, rippling gently against the reinforced embankment. One metal railing runs along the path edge, its cold gray bar against the warm orange glow of the sunlit mist.
