Hard afternoon sunlight slices across the massive concrete throat of a canal lock tunnel near Pokhara, illuminating the rough texture of the gray masonry. Low-hanging winter clouds cast a cool, diffuse shadow over the water surface below, where cables drape in taut, dark lines against the bright stone. The tunnel mouth stands as a heavy, rectangular void, exhaling a visible mist of cold air that drifts downward into the alpine gloom. The water below reflects the stark geometry of the lock walls, creating a sharp division between the sunlit upper structure and the deep, shadowed recess of the entrance. One cable end hangs just above the waterline, its frayed metal catching the light before disappearing into the mist.
