Meltwater Icicles Frame Tunnel Portal Night in beneath transmission towers near N'Djamena

Meltwater Icicles Frame Tunnel Portal Night

by Avery Holloway

Faint starlight and a low ground glow illuminate a concrete tunnel portal beneath towering transmission structures near N'Djamena. Long, irregular icicles formed from melting water hang from the upper lintel, their translucent surfaces catching the dim ambient light. The wet season air leaves the rough concrete textured with moisture, while the dark tunnel mouth creates a deep void at the center of the frame. Leading lines from the tunnel walls and overhead cables guide the gaze inward toward the shadowed interior. The massive steel lattice of the transmission towers looms above, casting faint shadows that emphasize the civic scale of the infrastructure. A final drip of water rests on the tip of the lowest icicle, suspended against the dark opening.
