Thick mist clings to a ridge where a metallic telescope tube points upward against a white snow fence. The instrument stands beside a tidal survey transect marked by wooden stakes driven into the damp, sparse tundra. Late afternoon tropical bright light falls through the fog, turning the snow fence edges into glowing white lines while casting soft, gray shadows on the uneven ground. The metal surface of the telescope reflects the diffuse sky, showing faint smudges of frost near the mounting bracket. In the background, the mist swallows distant contours, leaving only the immediate survey markers and the sturdy fence visible. One rust spot marks the lower joint of the tube.
