Telescope Tripod in Crusted Snow Above Stockholm Valley

by Garrett Huff

Steel-blue twilight washes over a rugged tripod anchored firmly into a crust of frozen snow. The instrument stands tall above a deep, shadowed valley where the first electric glow of Stockholm begins to flicker in the distance. Tiny red and green LEDs on the metal housing cast sharp, colored reflections onto the icy surface below. The tripod legs bite into the hard ground, surrounded by sparse, dormant vegetation typical of an arctic summer. A shallow depth of field blurs the distant city lights into soft, warm orbs while keeping the cold, textured metal of the telescope sharp. One reflection of a green indicator light glows on the frost-covered leg.
