Warm firelight glows across a white snow fence and the metallic barrel of a research telescope angled sharply upward. The instrument rests on a sturdy, weather-beaten platform where wind has scoured the surface smooth. Low-hanging clouds drift beneath the lens, catching the last intense rays of the midnight sun before it dips below the horizon. The sky transitions from deep orange near the horizon to pale lavender above. Frost crystals rest on the cold metal joints of the mount, shimmering faintly in the directional light. The telescope points toward a break in the cloud layer, revealing a sliver of clear blue sky against the otherwise overcast dome. The snow fence stands rigid against the invisible gale, its slats casting long, thin shadows across the packed ice.
