Frosted Telescope Eyepiece at Dawn in near a weather balloon launch site in British Columbia

Frosted Telescope Eyepiece at Dawn

by Bjorn Lindsay

Early spring mist rests on the cold metal housing of a telescope eyepiece near a British Columbia weather balloon launch site. Condensation beads densely across the blackened rim, turning the surface into a field of microscopic, frozen droplets that catch the pale, diffused light of first dawn. The frost spreads in intricate patterns over the textured grip and the glass lens edge, blurring the reflection of the gray sky. Mist drifts softly through the background, softening the distant treeline while keeping the eyepiece in sharp, icy focus. Tiny rivulets of meltwater begin to trace the curve of the metal casing where the morning warmth finally touches the coldest points.
