Frosted Telescope Eyepiece at Dawn Near Lhasa

by Isaac Serrano

Mist rests on the metal housing of a scientific telescope positioned beside the stone walls of an observatory near Norbulingka in Lhasa. The eyepiece lens is coated in a thick layer of white frost, crystalline and sharp against the dark glass. Pale morning light diffuses through the thin fog, softening the edges of the dome's curved roof in the background. Small red and green indicator lights glow steadily on the instrument's casing, their reflections stretching across the frosty surface. Autumn air hangs heavy, visible in the way the breath seems to freeze instantly. The metal casing shows signs of weathering, with a dull sheen where the frost has not yet formed. One droplet of condensation rests on the lower rim of the eyepiece, catching the faint light.
