Telescope on Frost Ridge at Dawn in along a rocky geology outcrop in Switzerland

Telescope on Frost Ridge at Dawn

by Jerome Whitfield

Deep shadow envelopes a metallic telescope mounted on a rocky outcrop, its rim catching the first pale streak of dawn light. Frost crystals coat the equipment and the surrounding jagged stones, creating a textured white layer that contrasts with the dark grey rock. The lens points upward toward the emerging sky, framed tightly to exclude the horizon. Salt wind has left a fine, gritty residue on the exposed metal surfaces, visible where the cold air meets the warm machinery. The angle of the low sun casts long, sharp shadows across the frost, showing the rigid structure of the instrument against the natural geology. One frost flake rests on the edge of the mounting bracket, catching the light.
