Spider Crab Migration at Dawn Near Haifa

Pale, translucent spider crabs cluster in a dense, winding column along the sandy seabed near Haifa. Soft, golden rays of the rising sun penetrate the water, illuminating a fine suspension of plankton that creates a hazy, diffused glow in the background. The crabs' long, spindly legs grip the sediment as they move together in a synchronized drift. Tall, dark kelp fronds line the shelf edges, swaying gently without visible current. The water clarity fades into a milky blue distance where the light rays become indistinct. A cluster of small, dark barnacles adheres to the shell of a crab in the immediate foreground, catching the first direct beam of sunlight.
