Silver Sardines Flashing Through Norwegian Kelp in through a forest of kelp fronds in Norway

Silver Sardines Flashing Through Norwegian Kelp

by Brynn Parker

Late afternoon sunlight pierces the crystal-clear water, illuminating a dense school of sardines as they flash silver in unison. The fish move through a vertical forest of kelp fronds, their scales catching the light in rhythmic bursts against the deep blue backdrop. Brownish-green kelp stalks sway gently, framing the school from behind while slow-moving surface ripples distort the light above. The water remains exceptionally transparent, revealing the texture of individual fish scales and the smooth, flexible surfaces of the kelp blades. Shadows stretch softly across the seabed, while the silver bodies of the sardines create a shimmering wall that shifts slightly with the current. at the edge is a single kelp frond bending sharply against the pressure of the passing school.
