Saltwater Crocodile Basking Mouth Open Dry Season
A massive saltwater crocodile lies along a dusty game trail near Maputo, its jaws stretched wide to expose rows of jagged teeth and the pink interior of its mouth. Dappled sunlight falls through overhead leaves, casting shifting patches of bright gold and deep shadow across the creature's armored, olive-green scales. The dry season has stripped the surrounding vegetation to brittle stalks and pale earth, showing the reptile's rough, knobby texture. A low haze blankets the distant horizon, softening the background into a muted blue-grey blur while the crocodile remains sharply defined in the foreground. Fine dust motes hang in the shafts of light, settling gently on the wet lips and the rough bark of a nearby fallen log.
