Golden Hour Crocodile Kerala Tidal Inlet

by Jeffrey Jenkins

Warm orange light spills across the still water of a Kerala tidal inlet, illuminating the rough, armored scales of a crocodile as it floats just beneath the surface. The reptile's dark, textured snout breaks the water line, casting a sharp reflection on the wet, rippled surface. Humid air hangs heavy, suggested by the soft sheen on the green mangrove leaves lining the muddy bank. The low sun angles from the side, turning the water into a sheet of molten copper while leaving the deeper recesses in cool shadow. A few fallen leaves rest on the silt near the water's edge, their veins visible against the dark, wet earth.
