Nile Crocodile Basking Near Jakarta Monsoon

Warm golden light from the setting sun wraps the upper body of a Nile crocodile resting near the urban edge of Menteng, Jakarta. The reptile lies low against damp earth, its mouth held wide open in a static gape, revealing rows of sharp teeth and a pink interior. Monsoon moisture glistens on the rough, armored scales of its back and tail, which fade into a soft blur of green vegetation and distant city structures. The shallow depth of field isolates the creature, leaving the background as a hazy wash of twilight colors and indistinct foliage. one drop of water rests on the edge of its lower jaw, catching the final rays of daylight.
