Saltwater Crocodile Basking Mouth Open Near Singapore Reed Bed

by Nellie Justice

Wet, dark scales glisten under the harsh tropical sun as a massive saltwater crocodile rests at the water's edge. Its jaws are locked wide open, revealing rows of sharp, yellowed teeth and a pink tongue resting against the lower jaw. Thick, green reeds rise from the murky water, their tips bent slightly from recent heavy rain. The air appears thick with moisture, creating a soft haze around the distant shoreline of Geylang. Water droplets rest on the reptile's rough skin, catching the bright afternoon light. The creature remains perfectly still, a heavy stone of muscle and bone amidst the swaying grass, its eyes fixed on the unseen horizon. one drop of water falls from the edge of its lower jaw, breaking the surface tension of the pond below.
