Parrotfish Sleeping in Moonlit Mucus Cocoon in beneath a reef ledge in tropical shallows near Cairns

Parrotfish Sleeping in Moonlit Mucus Cocoon

by Desmond Nieves

Cold blue moonlight falls through crystal-clear tropical water, illuminating a vibrant parrotfish suspended beneath a jagged reef ledge. The fish is encased in a translucent, gelatinous mucus cocoon that glows faintly against the dark stone. Tiny bubbles rest on the outer surface of the slimy barrier, catching the dim light. The water remains exceptionally still, with only slow, rhythmic ripples disturbing the surface far above. Textures range from the rough, porous coral rock to the smooth, glistening skin of the fish and the delicate, web-like consistency of the protective mucus layer. A faint shadow stretches from the ledge onto the sandy floor below.
