Neon Mantis Shrimp on Volcanic Reef Ledge

Neon orange and electric blue bands wrap around the segmented carapace of a mantis shrimp resting against dark, porous volcanic rock. The creature rests on the rough, uneven ledge beneath a deep overhang where starlight falls through exceptionally clear water. Faint, pale ground glow illuminates the scene from below, highlighting the wet, glossy texture of the shell and the fine spines along its limbs. Slow-moving surface ripples distort the starlight above, creating shifting patterns of silver and deep indigo across the rock face. The water remains still around the subject, showing the sharp contrast between the vibrant marine life and the shadowed, rainy-season depths of the reef near Denpasar. A thin line of white foam traces the edge of the volcanic stone where the water meets the rock.
