Feather Star Crinoid on Volcanic Reef Ledge

Hard coastal glare illuminates a feather star crinoid perched atop a jagged volcanic reef ledge near Denpasar. The creature's numerous delicate arms fan outward in a radial pattern, catching the bright afternoon light against the dark, porous rock. Plankton haze softens the background, muting the distant reef structures into a pale blue-gray wash. The low angle emphasizes the height of the overhang and the suspended position of the organism. Sunlight refracts through the water, creating sharp highlights on the wet, rough surfaces of the volcanic stone. A fine shadow falls across the base of the crinoid's stem where it grips the uneven ledge. The water appears clear yet filled with suspended particles that diffuse the intense light.
