Brilliant shafts of sunlight pierce the deep blue water, illuminating a cluster of branching staghorn coral clinging to a dark volcanic rock face. The coral displays rough, calcified textures in shades of tan and pale orange, creating a complex maze of nooks. Several small, translucent juvenile reef fish hover motionless within the protective branches, their bodies shimmering slightly against the darker background. A fine haze of plankton softens the distant water, giving the scene a gentle, diffused clarity. The light rays cut through the water column, highlighting the sharp edges of the coral tips and the delicate fins of the fish. One fish rests its snout against a coral branch tip.
