Juvenile Fish Swimming in Zanzibar Reef Crevice

by Marian Brock

Deep indigo water fills the frame, glowing softly from the fading surface light above. A narrow crevice in the coral reef anchors the left side, its rough, porous texture visible beneath a gentle haze of suspended plankton. Dozens of small, translucent juvenile fish cluster in a loose school, their silver bodies reflecting the dim blue glow. The water clarity diminishes with distance, turning the background into a soft, dark gradient. Fine sand grains drift near the reef base, caught in the slow current. Shadows from the coral overhangs stretch across the sandy floor, creating a cool, submerged mystery. A faint reflection of the surface ripples distorts the light on the upper right wall of the crevice.
