Hexagonal Basalt Columns Sunset Night Sky Sikkim

by Patrick Glenn

Warm oblique light strikes a geometric array of hexagonal basalt columns viewed from directly above. The dark stone textures contrast against dry wadis and dune fields stretching across the landscape. Heavy overcast clouds hang low, yet the sky fractures sharply down the center. One side glows with the fading orange of an early summer sunset, while the other plunges into a star-filled night. The boundary between day and night cuts a straight line across the terrain, illuminating the tops of the columns in gold before they fade into deep shadow. Dust motes are absent, but the crisp edges of the rock formations remain legible against the impossible horizon. One column edge reflects the starlight on the right while catching the last sunbeam on the left.
