Early Spring Tide Pools at Haifa Before Sunrise

by Joanne Hammond

Pale morning light spills across shallow rock basins near the Haifa coast, illuminating clusters of sea anemones with tentacles fully extended. The water holds a soft plankton haze that blurs the distant shoreline into a gray-blue wash. Cool tones dominate the wet stone surfaces, against the warm orange and pink hues of the rising sun reflecting on the water's surface. Delicate textures of the anemone petals stand out against the rough, dark basalt surrounding the pools. A thin layer of mist hovers just above the water, catching the first rays of light and softening the edges of the scene. The stillness is visible in the undisturbed surface of the tide pools, where reflections of the sky blend seamlessly with the submerged flora.
