Yellow Bladderwort Traps in South African Seagrass in above a seagrass meadow in South Africa

Yellow Bladderwort Traps in South African Seagrass

by Jorge Pena

Bright midday sunlight penetrates the clear water, illuminating a cluster of bladderwort plants anchored above a dense seagrass meadow. Tiny, lemon-yellow trap bladders hang from the submerged stems, their translucent walls catching the light against the darker green blades of the grass below. Fine suspended particles glitter throughout the water column, creating a shimmering haze that softens the distant background. The low angle looks upward, showing the vertical reach of the stems as they sway gently. At the edge of the frame, a single trap bladder reflects a sharp highlight from the surface above.
