Hard coastal glare pierces the deep blue water near Camps Bay, turning the swimming loggerhead sea turtle into a dark, defined silhouette. The massive shell and flippers stand out against the bright, sunlit surface above. Tiny suspended particles glitter throughout the water column, catching the harsh light like scattered diamonds. Late summer heat intensifies the contrast between the shadowed creature and the luminous ocean. The water shifts from deep indigo at the bottom to a glowing, almost white teal near the top. One beam of sunlight illuminates a cluster of floating debris drifting past the turtle's trailing flipper.
