Walrus Silhouette on Anchorage Ice Floe

Golden twilight washes over a wide expanse of ice-scoured water near Anchorage, where a massive walrus rests in stark silhouette against the fading horizon. The animal's thick, wrinkled hide and long tusks emerge as a dark, solid form atop a floating sheet of white ice. Above, the endless summer sky glows with soft amber light that reflects off the rippling surface of the channel. Tiny suspended particles glitter in the water column, catching the low sun like scattered diamonds. The ice edge cuts a sharp line against the deep blue water, while the walrus remains motionless, its heavy weight pressing down on the floe. One shadow stretches across the ice, marking the precise angle of the setting sun.
