Glacier Calving into Turquoise Water at First Light in across a floodplain after rain in Canada

Glacier Calving into Turquoise Water at First Light

by Peter Shepherd

First light spills across a wet floodplain where a massive glacier terminus meets deep turquoise water. Thick mist rests on the surface, softening the edges of the ice and the distant mountains. The ice face shows layers of compressed blue and white, with fresh cracks visible near the waterline. Rain-slicked rocks in the foreground reflect the pale sky, while the calm water ripples gently where a small chunk of ice has just detached. The horizon fades into the gray haze. A ripple spreads outward from the point where the ice meets the water.
