Alaskan Cirque Tarn in Endless Summer Twilight in across a floodplain after rain in Alaska

Alaskan Cirque Tarn in Endless Summer Twilight

by Eden Boyd

Snow falls gently across a frozen tarn nestled within a steep cirque, its surface cracked by the cold. Scree slopes rise sharply on either side, composed of loose gray stones that contrast with the dark water. Below, a vast floodplain stretches out, wet and reflective from recent rain, catching the soft light of an endless Alaskan summer evening. On the distant horizon, the warm orange glow of a town spreads across the sky, providing a faint counterpoint to the cool blues and grays of the landscape. The light is diffuse, flattening shadows while highlighting the texture of the falling snowflakes against the dark rock faces. A thin layer of ice coats the tarn's edge, meeting the rough texture of the scree in a jagged line.
