Dewy Telescope Mount on Saskatchewan Outcrop

by Louise Roach

Water droplets coat the black metal tubes of a telescope mount resting on a rough, gray granite outcrop. Late spring light fades behind heavy, slate-gray clouds that blanket the sky. The metal surface reflects a soft, diffused glow from a distant town on the horizon, creating a faint orange band against the darkening landscape. Tiny beads of condensation rest on the joints and adjustment knobs, catching the last ambient light. The rocky ground beneath the equipment shows patches of dry, dormant grass and scattered stones. A shallow depth of field blurs the background hills while keeping the wet, precise machinery in sharp focus. at the edge is a single droplet sliding slowly down the side of the mount tube.
