Swallows Nesting in Roofless Hammam Mist

Thick white mist fills the open interior of a roofless hammam near Nampula, softening the edges of crumbling stone walls. Swallows move through the dark rafters that span the remaining arches, their small bodies contrasting against the pale gray haze. Rain has just ceased, leaving the floor slick with puddles that reflect the soft midday sky. Moss grows on the damp brickwork, marking the turn of seasons. Sunlight breaks through the low clouds to illuminate dust in the damp air. A swallow perches on a rough beam, its shadow stretching across the wet stone floor at the edge of the frame.
