Swallows in Derelict Hangar Twilight in along a vine-choked corridor near Yogyakarta

Swallows in Derelict Hangar Twilight

by Sienna Moran

Steel-blue indigo light falls through gaps in the corrugated metal roof of a crumbling aircraft hangar near Yogyakarta. Dark silhouettes of swallows dart through the high rafters, their wings cutting through the heavy overcast gloom. Vines strangle the concrete pillars at the entrance, spilling green tendrils across the gravel foreground. A weathered stone ledge anchors the bottom of the frame, its rough texture against the smooth, fading sky. Dust motes hang suspended in the dim air, illuminated only by the faint ambient glow reflecting off the wet metal sheets. The structure leans slightly, a testament to years of neglect and the slow reclamation by the jungle.
