Storm Water Rushing Under Kitchener Viaduct at Sunset in under a viaduct of steel and concrete near Kitchener

Storm Water Rushing Under Kitchener Viaduct at Sunset

by Andy Patterson

Brilliant orange sunlight strikes the rough concrete walls of a massive steel viaduct, illuminating the churning white water pouring from a circular culvert. The scene sits beneath the heavy infrastructure near Kitchener, where late autumn air hangs still over the rushing stream. Heat shimmer distorts the view slightly above the sun-warmed metal beams and gray stone. Deep shadows pool in the corners of the structure while the water surface reflects the warm sky in streaks of gold and amber. The force of the discharge creates a frothy spray that catches the light, against the solid, unmoving mass of the bridge supports. A small patch of dried brown leaves rests against the wet concrete base near the water's edge.
