Orange Light Splits Flood Current on Bridge Pier

by Jayden Rice

Warm orange sunlight strikes the concrete cutwater of a bridge pier, dividing the turbulent, brown floodwater into two churning streams. The water roils with white foam as it collides with the smooth, gray stone, creating a sharp V-shaped wake that extends downstream. Above, a perfectly clear sky transitions from deep blue to soft gold near the horizon, casting long, dramatic shadows across the wet surface of the pier. The cool season air holds the scene in stillness despite the violent motion of the river below. The rough texture of the weathered concrete contrasts with the fluid, chaotic movement of the water, while the final edge of the cutwater glows with the last light of the day.
