White Water Storm Drain Viaduct Zhejiang

by Malik McBride

Copper-toned light washes over a massive concrete viaduct, casting the structure into a stark silhouette against the brightening sky. A storm drain culvert beneath the bridge disgorges a torrent of white water, churning violently as it meets the river below. The dry season leaves the riverbanks exposed, revealing cracked earth and sparse vegetation clinging to the muddy edges. Wind whips the surface of the water, creating a texture of fine ripples and scattered foam that contrasts with the solid, monolithic pillars of the pier. Leading lines formed by the bridge supports draw toward the turbulent discharge point. The water crashes against the concrete base, sending a fine mist that catches the fading light, highlighting the rough, weathered texture of the aged masonry.
