Rain-Dripping Viaduct Arch Ferns Guatemala in beneath a bridge span in Guatemala

Rain-Dripping Viaduct Arch Ferns Guatemala

by Liam Hancock

Soft morning light falls through dramatic, heavy clouds to illuminate the shadowed undercroft of a massive concrete viaduct in Guatemala. Water drips steadily from the curved arch, falling onto a bed of vibrant green ferns growing directly from the damp, weathered stone. The low angle emphasizes the towering scale of the infrastructure, making the arch loom overhead against the grey sky. Rough concrete textures contrast with the delicate fronds of the plants, which rest on the wet surfaces. Puddles reflect the pale sky while dark shadows pool at the base of the pillars. One drop hangs from the tip of a fern leaf just before it falls.
