Silhouetted Temple Ruins with Tree Roots in Guinea

by Janice Frost

Deep indigo twilight washes over the collapsed cloisters of Guinea, casting the ancient stone temple into a dark silhouette against the fading sky. Thick, fibrous tree roots have surged through the masonry, prying apart weathered blocks with relentless force. Rough stone surfaces absorb the cool light while moss-slicked roots hang from fractured arches. Water pools in the hollows of the fractured floor, reflecting the deep monsoon blue above. Every crack in the stone is filled with the intricate network of wood, creating a stark contrast between the organic growth and the rigid decay of the architecture. At the edge, a single root tip grips a loose stone fragment.
