Ethiopian Church Over Monsoon Lodz Courtyard in in a temple courtyard in Lodz

Ethiopian Church Over Monsoon Lodz Courtyard

by Stefan Casey

Blue hour shadows swallow the courtyard while a rim of violet light traces the carved stone edges of an Ethiopian rock-hewn church. The structure rises from a tiled floor that abruptly dissolves into golden sand dunes, shifting from masonry to desert grain without a seam. Low-hanging monsoon clouds press against the temple walls, heavy with moisture, while rain streaks the dark stone. The transition between the indoor tile and the outdoor dunes is sharp and immediate, creating a flat horizon line where the ground texture changes. Deep shadows hide the corners of the room, leaving only the glowing rim of the church and the rippled sand visible against the dark blue sky.
